MIG/MAG devices troubleshooting

On this page, you will find tips on solving minor problems with MIG/MAG welding equipment. Many issues, such as lack of power, connection problems, or incorrect settings, can be repaired independently without the need to send the device to a service center, which will save you time and costs.

Before starting the repair, make sure you have read the device's instruction manual, understand the manufacturer's safety recommendations, and have the necessary tools and repair skills.

Symptoms Cause Action
No power, error signal, or faulty device operation No connection or loose plug inside the device Remove the cover, check and fix all electrical connections inside the device
No wire feed (feeder motor is running) Roller pressure is too weak Adjust the roller pressure to the correct setting
Improper diameter of the guiding roller groove Install the proper guiding roller
Contaminated wire guide in the holder Clean the wire guide
Blocked electrode wire in the power cable end Replace the power cable end
Irregular wire feed Defective power cable end Replace the power cable end
The feeding roller groove is dirty or damaged Clean the feeding roller groove or replace the roller
The wire spool rubs against the walls of the welder cover Secure the wire spool correctly
Arc does not ignite No proper contact with the ground wire clamp Improve the contact with the ground wire clamp
Defective switch in the MIG holder Replace the switch
Incorrect connection of the MIG holder to the device Check the electrical connections of the holder and whether the pins in the socket are not broken or jammed
Arc too long and irregular Welding voltage is too high Reduce the welding voltage
Wire feed speed is too slow Increase the wire feed speed
Arc too short Welding voltage is too low Increase the welding voltage
Wire feed speed is too high Reduce the wire feed speed
After turning on the power, the power indicator light does not turn on No power supply Check the fuses on the power supply connection
The overheating LED is on The device has overheated Wait a few minutes until the LED goes out and continue welding
The fan is not working The fan has been blocked by a bent cover Straighten the fan cover
Unsatisfactory weld quality when using the MIG method Inappropriate or poor quality materials or consumables used Replace consumables. Change the welding wire or gas cylinder to appropriate or higher quality materials
The shielding gas flows with inappropriate intensity Check the gas supply hose, improve the hose connection with fittings and the condition of quick connectors. Check the cylinder regulator, adjust the inductance.
Improper inductance setting
Unsatisfactory weld quality when using the MMA method, the electrode sticks to the welded material Incorrect polarity of the welding cables connection Connect the welding cables correctly
Moist electrode Replace the electrode
The welder is powered by a generator or through a long extension cord with a cable of insufficient cross-section Connect the device directly to the power supply
